If you enjoy back country canoeing then you will want to consider a float trip on the North Fork of the Flambeau River. The Flambeau River from the Turtle Flambeau Dam downstream to the cabin is approximately a 2-3 hour float. Further on down river you can exit at Holt Landing or Agenda landing. This could be an excellent one or two day trip, depending on what you would like.
What makes this river so special is not the size or the depth, but the combination of both the rock and boulder stream bottom and many small rapids produces a fun float trip.
The wilderness setting is another factor that adds to the lure of this particular area of the river. The State of Wisconsin owns a 300 foot strip on either side of the river from the dam to the Agenda boat landing with the EXCEPTION of our rental cabin, which is privately owned. The rest of the shoreline is now part of the Falmbeau River State Forest.
The glaciers have added there touch to the river with huge boulders and rock shorelines. Most of the rapids are in the first 1 1/2 miles below the dam and then again between Holt and Agenda landings.
You will see huge white pines, hemlocks stands, white cedar and birch trees on your river trip. You can expect to see some wildlife on your trip also. There are deer, bear, ducks, geese, otter, beaver, muskrat and mink. There are several spots of nesting eagles on the river for viewing from a canoe. Believe it or not there has been a young bull moose cruising the area.
